A New Chapter for My Hero Academia: I am a Hero Too
Just when fans thought the My Hero Academia anime had completely wrapped up, the franchise threw a massive curveball. Even though the original ending delivered a highly satisfying conclusion for the main cast, one beloved character felt slightly left behind: Eri.Now, a brand-new sequel special titled "I am a Hero Too" has been officially announced. This upcoming project promises to finally give Eri's story the proper closure it deserves.
What is "I am a Hero Too" About?
This special new project serves a dual purpose: it acts as a sequel to the main series and celebrates the monumental 10th anniversary of the My Hero Academia anime.
The story of "I am a Hero Too" centers entirely around Eri as she navigates her life and tries to find her own path following the devastating events of the final war. The plot is a direct adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s latest short manga found in the My Hero Academia: Ultra Age fan book.
Will the Anime Expand on the Manga?
One of the biggest questions surrounding this sequel is its runtime. Fans of the source material know that the original story in the Ultra Age fan book is extremely short, spanning a mere five pages. In those pages, Eri visits U.A. High School simply to invite Deku to her very first street concert. If the animation studio chooses a strict 1:1 adaptation (similar to the recent "More" episode), the special would only run for about five minutes. However, because this is a massive 10th-anniversary celebration, it is highly likely that the studio will add plenty of original content.
In the manga, readers see Eri prepare for her debut show, but they never actually get to witness the performance. Expanding the story to finally show Eri taking the stage to sing would provide the perfect, emotional payoff that fans have been waiting for, easily filling a standard 24-minute episode.
Does This Mean More My Hero Academia Anime?
The announcement of "I am a Hero Too" strongly hints that the My Hero Academia franchise still has plenty of life left in it, even after the main anime officially concluded with episode 170+1.
While we wait to see Eri shine, there is also hope for other corners of the universe. For instance, the critically acclaimed spin-off My Hero Academia: Vigilantes recently wrapped its second season in March 2026. However, those two seasons only adapted about half of the original manga. Given the franchise's ongoing popularity and willingness to produce new content like Eri's sequel, there is a very distinct possibility that Vigilantes could return for a third and fourth season.
