The Legend of Zelda Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary
This year has already been an outstanding year for fans of The Legend of Zelda. The iconic franchise is officially celebrating its massive 40th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, fans have been gifted with a slew of new content, exciting announcements, and remastered oldies.
However, the single biggest thing to ever happen to the franchise—both literally and figuratively—is arriving in 2027.
The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie (May 2027)
To cap things off, The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is officially due to release on May 7th, 2027. While information on the project is currently a little scant and we are largely in the dark about the storyline or additional characters, a few screenshots and set images have surfaced.
Here is what we know about the highly anticipated Nintendo Zelda cinematic adaptation so far:
- Visual Style: Some fans have noted that the costumes and overall visuals are a mish-mash of art styles from different Legend of Zelda games.
- Link's Look: Set images reveal a game-accurate design for Link. Specifically, Link's costume looks like it was pulled directly from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
- Epic Landscapes: The environments and landscapes shown in the sneak peeks look like they were pulled straight from a Lord of the Rings movie.
- The Creative Team: Wes Ball is sitting in the director's chair. The movie also features direct involvement from Avi Arad and the infamous Shigeru Miyamoto, making fans feel the project might be in safe hands.
With over forty years of rich lore to pull from, the creators have a wealth of stellar stories to base the movie on, or they could build a brand-new adventure. Fans are just hoping the finished IMAX film aims higher than the sky islands and is absolutely nothing like the disastrous live-action Super Mario Bros movie from 1993.
Ocarina of Time Remake & Courage Reborn
The 2027 movie is the cherry on the cake, but the anniversary year is already packed with incredible gaming updates for the community:
- Ocarina of Time Remake: We have already seen confirmation of an Ocarina of Time remake.
- Twilight Princess on PC: Thanks to dedicated and talented fans, a PC port of Twilight Princess is coming soon. This highly anticipated project will be known as Courage Reborn.
Between the classic remakes and the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster, there has simply never been a better time to be a Zelda fan.
