Well, well, well, the last Wednesday of August is shaping up to be an absolute corker for comic book fans. We’ve had a proper good look through the list for the 27th, and it’s packed with everything from universe-shattering events to brilliant little indies. It’s a lot to get through, so we’ve done the hard graft for you and picked out the 36 essential reads for your pull list. Trust us, you don’t want to miss these.
Your End-of-August 2025 Pull List: A Proper Good Mix
Right then, let's get stuck in. The week of the 27th is absolutely chocka with massive titles from the big two – DC and Marvel – but there are also some real gems from the likes of Image and IDW. It’s a cracking week for #1 issues and big event comics, making it a brilliant time to jump on board if you’ve fancied getting into a new series.
DC Comics: Absolute Power and New Blood
DC are going all out this week with a whopping eleven titles. They’re really swinging for the fences.
The premium Absolute Wonder Woman #11 and Absolute Martian Manhunter #6 are back, delivering massive story beats with that lovely glossy paper. For your regular superhero fix, you’ll want Superman #29, The Flash #24, and Green Lantern #26 to keep up with the ongoing sagas.
The big one everyone’s chatting about is Immortal Legend Batman #1. A new Batman #1 is always a event, and let's be honest, it’ll probably be worth a few bob in a few years' time. Analysts over at ICv2 are always going on about how these first issues shoot up in value.
Also, don’t forget about Green Arrow #27, Harley Quinn #53, Mr. Terrific: Year One #4, and the final part of Robin & Batman: Jason Todd #3. Proper good stuff.
Marvel Mayhem: Events, Team-Ups, and a Mortal God
Not to be outdone, Marvel are also serving up eleven titles that range from huge crossovers to more personal stories.
Their ‘Imperial War’ event is properly exploding now with two new spin-offs: Imperial War: Black Panther #1 and Imperial War: Planet She-Hulk #1. If you’re following the event, you’ll need these.
The big ongoing books like The Avengers #29, The Incredible Hulk #28, and X-Men #21 are all hitting crucial points. And let’s not beat around the bush, Ultimate Spider-Man #20 is still one of the best comics on the shelf, regularly sitting in the top 5 of the sales charts according to Comichron.
Make sure you also grab the finale of the hilarious Deadpool / Wolverine #8 and the adorable Jeff the Land Shark #3. And the one we’re most excited about? The Mortal Thor #1. A new number one that’s shaking up the God of Thunder? Yes, please.
Image & Indies: Where the Creative Magic Happens
Right, moving away from the big two, the indie scene is absolutely thriving. Geiger #17 and The Scorched #44 are continuing to build that fantastic post-apocalyptic universe. If you’re into fantasy epics, you simply cannot miss the stunning Monstress #59.
Two massive highlights: Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man #1 is giving a classic horror icon a fresh coat of paint, and Void Rivals #22 is still the core book for that brilliant Energon Universe that’s got everyone talking about Transformers again.
And One You Might Miss: A Proper Hidden Gem
Now, don’t just scroll past this bit! While everyone's busy with the DC and Marvel stuff, IDW Publishing have quietly released a sequel to one of last year's best comics: Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #2. It’s a brilliantly dark comedy-thriller that sold out almost instantly last time. Get it now before it disappears and becomes impossible to find!
You Might Be Wondering…
What’s a pull list?
It’s basically your weekly comic book subscription at your local shop. You tell them what you want each week, and they put it aside for you. It means you never miss an issue and it helps your shop know what to order. Everyone wins!
Why does the FOC date matter?
That ‘Final Order Cutoff’ date is the deadline for your local comic shop to order their books. If a comic has a really early FOC (like The Mortal Thor #1), it’s usually a sign the publisher thinks it’s going to be huge and is giving shops plenty of notice to order loads.
How many new comics come out each week?
Blimey, loads. Usually between 80 and 150-plus across all publishers. This last week of August is a particularly busy one, hence this massive list!
Final Tuppence
All in all, the end of August is an absolutely stellar week for comics. Whether you’re all about the blockbuster events or you prefer your stories a bit more quirky and indie, there’s genuinely something for everyone. So, print this list, take it down to your local comic shop, and have a proper good natter with them about it. They’re the heart of it all, after all.
Cheers and happy reading!
